It is with deep sadness that we, the children, announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Emelda Burns on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at Victorian Haven Nursing Home, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rita (Buckley) Gracie.
Emelda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a very strong and deep faith and cherished her prayer beads.
She is survived by her children, Terri Anne, Glace Bay, Patrick (Kelly), Reserve Mines, Blair (Lorrie) New Waterford, Jamie (Alicia) Glace Bay; grandchildren, Shelby, Daniel, Caitlyn, Breton, Brydan, Dakota, Tarran, Zackery, Dawson, Jessica, Caylee; one sister, Anne (Jerry) MacNeil; four brothers, Terry (Betsie), John (Mary), Jimmy (Marion), Joey (Carol); numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John (Bobby) Burns, eldest son, Bobby Jr., two sisters and one brother in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, with Fr Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will follow the service in the parish cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Bobby. The family will greet people at 10 a.m. leading up to the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breast Cancer Research.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
