It is with sadness we announce that Tony Kuz passed away peacefully in his sleep at Overlander Care Home on the morning of November 9th, 2011. He left us on the day before his 91st birthday.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Anne; his son Ron Kuz and his daughter Judy (Jock) Stewart, all from Kamloops; his grandchildren: Todd Stewart (Crystal Szabo), Coquitlam; Keith (Brandalyn) Stewart, Kamloops and Tarra Kuz (David Hinton), Kamloops; great granddaughter Marissa Stewart, Coquitlam and great grandson Troy Stewart, Kamloops. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister-in-law Kay Kuz, Fraserwood, MB, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Kuz: all his sisters Rose, Pauline, Kay, Anne and Laura; and all his brothers Mike, John, Adam, Nick and Stanley. He was the last one of his generation.
Tony was born and raised on a farm in Fraserwood, MB, the second youngest in a family of eleven. He left home as a young man, working in the underground mines until his relatives convinced him to move out west to B.C. (a lovely place to live they told him). He arrived in Kamloops in 1949. It was here he met and fell in love with Anne Seminchuk. One year later on October 28th, 1950 they were married. They raised two children, Ron born in 1952 and Judy in 1954. He was employed with the City of Kamloops for 32 years, starting first with the Street Dept. and eventually becoming the Foreman of the Cemeteries until his retirement at the age of 62 years.
After retirement, Tony always kept active. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, spending many hours on the nearby lakes. He also enjoyed camping & travelling and was always eager to explore places he hadn't been before. He liked playing cards, especially cribbage and many afternoons and evenings were spent with friends having a few games and a visit. Tony was a natural born musician, learning to play by ear. His violin and dulcimer were his pride and joy and nothing pleased him more than to play a tune on the fiddle. He was an active member at his church for many years and volunteered much of his time for their many fundraisers and functions.
God saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, "Peace be thine".
The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Yanko and the nurses and staff at Overlander for their care, kindness and compassion given to Tony over the years.
Prayers and viewing will be held Sunday evening, November 13th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church, 109 Tranquille Road.
The Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 14th, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Graveside interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer's Society, #300 - 828 West 8th Ave., Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2 in Tony's memory would be appreciated.
