With broken hearts, we the family of Billy Doucette announce his passing on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Billy was surrounded by his loving family and life-long friends, Cletus ‘Goldie’ MacNeil and his brother, Joey Doucette.
Born in New Waterford and a resident of George Street, Billy was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (MacLeod) Doucette.
He was a member of St. Leonard’s parish, a dedicated Eucharistic minister and a member of Mt. Carmel Cemetery Committee. Billy spent 38 years as a coal miner and 20 years as an overmen. He worked in No. 12, Phalen and Lingan colleries.
After retiring from the mines, Billy took great pleasure in working with his brother, Joey, educating school children about local mining. He also worked at ICT in Sydney which he deeply enjoyed. He was an avid storyteller who loved to entertain all who would listen. He had a passion for history and spent many hours researching his family tree.
Billy loved the outdoors and had many enjoyable times hunting and being in the woods with his brother Joey. He was a very caring person who was always there to help others in need. Billy enjoyed spending time at his summer camper in Mabou and will be sadly missed by the people he knew from that area.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Billy Jr., Darren, Shane; sister, Mary (Gordon) Dawe, Albert Bridge; brother, Joey (Barbara), New Waterford; close friend and special aunt, Christina (Billy) MacKenzie; numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Francis and a sister in infancy.
