Peacefully at the Atlantic Baptist Nursing Home on Sunday, November 13, 2011, of Curtis Rognlie Miller of Stratford, age 94 years, beloved husband of the late Bonnie (nee Carmichael) and dear father of Marc (Beverly), Alaska; Scott (Karen), Stratford; and Patrick, Washington State. Curt was a loving grampie to Michael (predeceased) and Megan (Scott Wotherspoon) and great-grampie to Georgia and Reid Wotherspoon. He will also be fondly remembered by his devoted friend, Jean Walker.
Curt was the son of Sevart and Frieda (nee Rognlie), and was the last surviving member of a family of four brothers and one sister.
Curt was born in Benedict, North Dakota, on January 16, 1917. He moved to Portland, Oregon, with his family at a young age and remained there until leaving to attend Washington State University where he received a B.Sc. In 1943 he joined the US Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. While on shore leave he met and 10 days later, married Bonnie and moved to San Diego where they remained until the end of the war. They then moved to Washington State where they settled and started a family. During this time Curt worked as a manager/owner of food processing companies. In 1967 Curt accepted an offer to move his family to P.E.I. and manage Langley's Food Processing in Montague, where he remained until 1974 when he returned to Washington State and began a career in agricultural real estate. In 1983 Curt and Bonnie followed their hearts back to P.E.I. and settled into retirement.
Curt will be remembered as a gentleman and devoted family man. He will be especially remembered for his wry sense of humor... his "Curtisms" were enjoyed by all who knew him. His many interests included playing classical violin, wood carving, nature, gardening, travelling and reading.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. There will be no visitation by personal request. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
