It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Sheldon Dawe, who passed away Sunday, November 13, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney Mines on January 4, 1947, he was the son of the late Bernard and Ella (Reid) Dawe. He was a 40 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #8, Sydney Mines. He worked as a barber in town for many years, and also at the North Star Inn, North Sydney.
Sheldon is survived by his daughter Michelle; and grandchildren Austin, Dawson and Cheyenne; step-daughter Yvonne (Christie) Strba; and grandchildren Courtney and Bret; step-son Glen Christie; and grandchildren Rebecca and Jacob. He is also survived by his wife Loretta; step-daughter Donna Hall; and grandson Connor; sisters Ruth Rideout, Shirley (Carl) Warhus, Sandra (Lod) Osmond; brothers Billy (Sharon), Clarence (Margie), Robert, Brian (Francis) and Ricky (Dana).
Besides his parents, Sheldon was predeceased by his first wife Ann (Vickers) Dawe; and his brother Bernie Dawe.
At his request, cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors at J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Friday, November 18, 2011, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Sheldon’s life will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Nick Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheldon’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, or the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
