Peacefully, at his late residence, on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, of John “Gerald” Best of Tryon, age 98 years. Loving husband of Beryl (Johnston, Craswell) Best and his late wife, Luella (Lund). Dear father of David (Heather), Marilyn (Sheldon) Myers and Marie. Grampy to Greg Best, Brian (Connie) Best, Dale (Liane) Best, Randy (Levita) Myers, Donna Myers, Dawn Campbell, Cindy (Darcy) Smith, and Kelly Campbell. Poppy to Christine (Micah) Fenton, Laura, Lois and Katelyn Craswell. Great-grandfather to Morgan, Brianna, Jacqueline, Emma, Hannah, Madelyn and stepgreatgrandfather to Zachery and Paige. Survived by sister, Alice Barnes, Williamsburg, Virginia, sisters-in-law, Wanda Best, Lois Johnston, Ione Kelly, and stepdaughter-in-law, Lynn Craswell-Nicholson. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Lucy (nee MacDonald) Best, brothers, Norman and Kenneth Best, brother-in-law, Larry Barnes, and stepson, John David Craswell. Resting at the Dawson Funeral Home, Crapaud, for visitation on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. A masonic service will follow at 9.
