Curtis DeForest Acker - 81, of New Minas, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at home. Born in Springfield, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Harold and Jane (Veinotte) Acker. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces for several years as an engine mechanic. He then remustered as an electronic technician with flight simulators for training pilots. Upon retirement he worked as a mechanic with Thompson Moving and Storage and Bruce Motors, both in Middleton, as a rural route mail driver and later as a commissionaire in the Hardboard Plant, East River. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. He is survived by his wife, Leona Yvonne (Acker) Acker; three sons, Harold Curtis, East River, Lunenburg County; Curtis DeForest Jr., New Minas; Richard Blair (Melanie), Lawrencetown, Annapolis County; a daughter, Sharon Jeanette Yvonne (Harold) Weare, Caledonia; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Alvin, Crandall, Osbourne and Raymond; a sister, Helen; a sister, in infancy. Visitation was held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011, Pastor Lester Simpson officiating. Burial took place at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 in the Springfield Cemetery.
