Murdock “Bus” MacLeod - 96, of Wolfville, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Always proud of his Cape Breton roots, he was born in Baddeck, the son of the late William and Annabelle (Ferguson) MacLeod. He was a graduate of Baddeck Academy before serving overseas in England, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Germany. He graduated from Acadia University upon his return. He joined the United Fruit Company, Kentville, in 1947. He was instrumental in its transformation into Scotian Gold Cooperative from which he retired as Comptroller in 1980. After retirement he was appointed as Wolfville’s Coordinator for Downtown Development. His passions were gardening, cooking, and politics of any flavour. Always community minded, he served on many committees and boards; Wolfville Board of School Commissioners, President of Annapolis Valley Board of Trade, Chair of the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival, and Chair of the Wolfville Police Commission to name a few. He served as a member of Wolfville Town Council from 1959-1964, Deputy Mayor from 1964-1966, and served as Mayor of Wolfville from 1966-1974. He is survived by sons, Wayne, Amherst; Robbin (Vicki), Aylesford; Tim (Betty) Wolfville. “Grampy” will also be missed by grandchildren, Jeff (Tyra), Kentville; Jake (Nicole), Oakville, Ontario; Melissa (Justin) Smith, Bedford; and Jennifer (Peter Aalders), Lower Sackville; Alexa, Amherst; step-grandchildren, Cody (Angie), Kelsey (Sean) and Kailey. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Liam and Margo MacLeod, Kentville; Belle, Lily, and Jack MacLeod, Oakville, Ontario; Nicholas Smith, Bedford and step-great-grandchildren, Chloe and Cordelia, Aylesford. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce (Porter) in 2007; brother, Wilfred; sister, Margaret Ross; daughters-in-law, Donna and Sheila. There was no visitation, by request. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. The family would like to thank Dr. Wayne Phillips, Marlene Atwell and Jim Wright of Mar-Lane Lodge and the staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their exceptional care of our father.
