John Gordon MacLean, a resident of Taigh Na Mara, Sydney, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Jessie (Reid) MacLean.
For 43 years, Gordon worked at the coke ovens as a master mechanic. A veteran of the Second World War, he served overseas with the 2nd Battalion North Novies. Gordon was a badminton coach for many years at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River and also enjoyed playing tennis, camping, fishing and using his four-wheel drive truck.
Surviving are his children, Darlene Canning, Wallace (Diane) and Wayne (Maureen); grandchildren, Natasha (Greg Geizer), Ryan, Ainsley, Meghan, Johnathan (Jillian), Douglas and Kristen; great-grandchildren, Keagen, Kennedie, Kallum and Kohen.
Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Agnes (MacLeod) in 1995; son-in-law, John Canning in 2008; siblings, James, Mary, Catherine, Christine.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Monday 11 a.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Alfred Smith Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
