It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Edmund Joseph Richard, age 93, of Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Hospital, formerly of St. Margaret's Bay, while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 1, 2009.
Born in River Hebert, NS, in 1916, he was a son of the late William and Selena (Landry) Richard.
Edmund was a loving father and husband. He was a great friend to everyone he met. He started his career as a coal miner in River Hebert and Joggins, leaving to serve his country over seas in World War II. Following the war he remained with the Canadian Army for the remainder of his working life. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved time in his garden and his many woodworking projects. His grandchildren enjoyed hearing his many tall tales and spending time with Grampa. Edmund was a dollar store Junkie, and made sure that every visitor left with a "Dollar Store Treasure".
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him; children Douglas (Wanda), Mill Cove, NS, Marguerite (Merv) Werry, Halifax, Rita Smullin Richard, Fredericton, Norma (John) Clarkson, Napanee, ON, Gary, Alberta, Paul, Bridgewater, Donna Richard, Tantallon, NS; 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren; sister Doris Dionne, Pugwash. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Jessie (Melanson), sons John and Edmund Jr., grandson Glenn Clarkson; siblings Leon, Eddie, Clarence, Maggie, Nita, Charlie, and Marion.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert, (902-251-2877) where visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from St. Paul The Apostle Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 11 am, Father David MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the St. Denis Parish Cemetery, Minudie. Those wishing to make a donation in Edmund's memory may do so to the Veteran's Memorial Garden Fund, Camp Hill or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Camp Hill 5 West for their dedicated and loving care of our father. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
