WINTON, AUDREY GLORIA - A kind, gentle and loving woman has passed away. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Gloria Winton on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born on January 15, 1923 in Galloway, NB, Audrey was the daughter of the late Fred Girvan and Agnes MacMichael of Galloway, NB. As the eldest of four girls, Audrey was driven to help and care for others at an early age. After graduating from high school in 1942, Audrey was accepted to nursing school in Campbellton. Following graduation in 1946, Audrey went to work in a small hospital in Bathurst. It was during this time that Audrey found the love of her life, the late John A. Winton and married him in 1950. Together they had two children, Brenda (Norman) LeBlanc of Dartmouth, NS and Allan Winton of Moncton, who will dearly miss her love and unwavering support. Her career led her to the Moncton Hospital in 1959 where she was a general duty RN, assistant head nurse and eventually, due to her devotion to her patients and staff, she became head nurse for 24 years, retiring in June, 1983. For those who knew her, Audrey lived her life with open arms and an open heart, providing meals, love, laughter and inspiring optimism for all who passed through her kitchen. Audrey will be deeply missed by her sisters, Lois Keays and Dorothy Girvan of Moncton. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren, Katie and Nicki LeBlanc of Dartmouth, NS. They will remember her fondly with a cup of tea and an unwavering smile. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her niece Laurie Keays for all of her help throughout the years. Audrey was predeceased by her third sister, the late Eunice Stymest of Kingston, ON. Audrey was an associate member of the Moncton Hospital Nurses Auxiliary, the Retired Nurses’ Association and a long time member of Mountain View United Church. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at the Dialysis Unit and those on the fourth floor at the Dr .Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Centre for their generosity and care.
Visitation will be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service to be held at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday November 23, 2011 at 10:30am with Rev. Mary MacPherson officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. A private interment will take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens following the service.
