It is with great sorrow that we announce that Edna Mitchell passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24th, 2009 in her home in Red Deer, Alberta.
A private family memorial service was held on Thursday, October 29th, 2009 at the Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium in Red Deer, Alberta, with an inurnment to take place in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in the spring of 2010.
Edna was born and raised in the Royal Hotel on Elgin Street, in Springhill, Nova Scotia. She was the youngest child of Florence and J.J. Ritchie. Edna was married to Kenneth Henry Mitchell (also of Springhill); in 1943 and together, they began a family and rained living there until the “Bump” of 1958. They, with their two daughters, Valerie and Deborah, relocated to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and had a third daughter, Patricia. Ken passed away in 1993 and it was in 1997 that Edna relocated to Red Deer, Alberta, and remained there until her passing.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ken, son-in-law Paul Rey and by her seven siblings. She was the last child of two families. Left to mourn her passing are her children; Valerie Neill (Dave Stevens) and Kirsty, Sean (Kori) and great granddaughter Avery; Deb Rey; and Patti Hurst (Dave) and granddaughter Brittany.
She’ll be happy to dance again.
