HIGDON, Viola Lilly May– June 24, 1920 - November 24, 2011. On November 24, 2011 God’s Garden became brighter and our hearts heavier, as the one we loved so dearly, Viola Lilly May Higdon (nee Woodman) of New Harbour, in her 91st year, after a very short illness, passed from this life to her eternal home surrounded by her ever loving family. Predeceased by her husband Bob (Robert) “the love of her life”; her son Walter John, infant son Leo, parents Nehemiah & Laura (nee Pinsent) Woodman, stepmother, Esther (nee West) Woodman, sister Agnes, brothers Thomas (Mary) and Lloyd (Carrie). Leaving to mourn and to celebrate her wonderful life, are her family: sons and daughters: Edgar (Julie), New Harbour, Laura (Ron) Field, Glenwood, Emily (Harry) Higdon, New Harbour, Mervin (Beverly), New Harbour; 18 grandchildren: Emma (Bill) Cochrane, Robert (Heather), Lorne (Mary-Lou), Fred, Timothy (Jerrica), Heidi (Jim) Parish, Heatherlea (Wayne) Rothwell, Hope (Rob) Mclaughlin, Holly (Campbell) Fraser, Stephanie (Paul) Smith, Michael Field, Sandy (Karen), Harry (Holly), John (Lindsey), Jennifer (Scott) Priske, Sam (Kristen), Jessica (Justin) and Shane (Rebecca). 22 great-grandchildren to whom she was lovingly known as Blanket Nanny, Nanny Higdon and Great-Nanny: Loralie, Melissa, William, Melanie, Gregory, Alex, Destiny, Sam, Gracie, Coleen, Ian, Cole, Chloe, Reese, Kayleigh, Kendra, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Rebecca, Lilly, Cara, Andrew, plus one precious soon to be born great-grandchild. Also left to mourn and celebrate her life are special sisters-in-law: Janie (Roy) Pollett, Leah Hedley and Rita (Gerald) Cranford, as well as a special friend Kathy Porter; her home care workers Muriel, Velma and Sharon and many other extended family and friends. Nan was devoted to her faith and was a lifetime member of L.O.B.A Lodge # 696 , the Crystal Chapter and St. Augustine ACW. She was an avid reader (if one was to research, one would probably find that she held the world’s longest subscription to Readers Digest and the Evening Telegram); She was a teller of stories; a keeper of memories, Nan was a very gifted and intelligent lady, she shared her love of sewing, knitting, quilting, crocheting, flower gardening, baking and her love of life in general to her family and to all who visited. Nan we will miss your beautiful smile, however each night we will wrap ourselves in your love and have faith that you will look down upon us as one of our guardian angels. Resting at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo on Friday, November 25, 2:00 pm until time of funeral. The funeral service will be held from St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, New Harbour on Sunday, November 27th at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at St. Augustine's Anglican Cemetery.
