Violet 'Sissie' Strong
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Violet ‘Sissie’ Strong on Nov. 27, 2011, at home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Lillian (Deering) Smith. Sissie was a hardworking, dedicated employee for over 40 years having worked at National Sea, Highland Fisheries and Clearwater. She formed many true friendships over the years and will be missed by all. Sissie was also a member of the Caledonia Ladies Dart League.
She is survived by her sons, Kurt (Sabrina), Leonard (Hilda); grandchildren, Renee, Kurt, Justin, Trevor and Cody; sisters, Susie (Neil) Halifax, Lillian (Bubby), Betty (Peter) Perkinsfield, Ont, Dorothy (John), Mary (Greg), Sheila (Glen); brothers, John ‘Dewey’ (Marie), Jim (Jayney), Robert (Dean) and many nieces and nephews. Sissie will be dearly missed by her faithful little companion, Zoey.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon (2010); granddaughter, Jessica and brother, Wilson Smith Jr.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 30, from 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church with Rev Leo Boone officiating. Interment for Sissie and Gordon will follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care Society, Cape Breton Cancer Centre or VON.
