On Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, our family lost our beloved Aunt Margaret Christine MacLean.
Born in Catalone, Oct. 8,1924, she was the daughter of the late Rod E. MacLean and Margaret (MacLean) and stepmother, Agnes (MacAulay) MacLean
In her early years Margaret was employed as a nanny to the Lubetzki family of Glace Bay. She later moved to Halifax where she worked for 35 years in private nursing. For the past five years she was a resident of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she fought a courageous battle with Alzheimers disease.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, Halifax, but always held her home church MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone, dear to her heart. While living in Halifax she was a member of the UCW and was very active in church affairs.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Cathy (Dave) Wadden, Catalone, Jean (Doug) Dunbar, Calgary, John A. (Jenny) MacLean, Calgary, Charles MacLean, Newfoundland, Margie Steele, Sydney, Gordon (Shirley) MacLean, Malagawatch, Angus (Patricia) Maclean, Sydney. She is also survived by her best friend and cousin, Rhoda Dickson, Catalone Gut; sisters-in-law, Shirley MacLean, Sydney and Ede MacLean, Whitby, Ont.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Catherine (Hughie) Peach, Glace Bay, Angus MacLean, Whitby, Ont. Neil (Elsie) MacLean Louisbourg; Strath MacLean, Sydney and John A. MacLean, Catalone. Margaret was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Visitation will be held at MacMillan Memorial United Church, Catalone, Thursday, Dec. 1, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 with Rev. Matthew Fillier officiating. Interment in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to MacMillan Memorial United Church.
