Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: November 30th, 2011

With broken hearts we, the family, regret to announce the passing of our loving mother, daughter, sister and niece, Debbie, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Debbie lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, Debbie was the daughter of Lorne and Geraldine (Tutty) Clarke. Debbie is also survived by her loving children, who were the pride and joy of her life, son Joey, Fort McMurray and daughter, Jami, Glace Bay; her loving sister and brother-in-law, Lorna and Wayne MacRury, Glace Bay, with whom she was very close. Debbie is also survived by her best friend, soul mate and the love of her life, Yvon Poirier, Cheticamp. Yvon fought this courageous battle with her, holding Debbie's hand all the way. He was a pillar of strength for her, especially during her last days. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, many friends and her special aunt Marie.
Debbie was a paralegal for 23 years, working at various law firms in Sydney and Glace Bay. She will be missed by her co-workers and friends.
Debbie was well known to have a great sense of humour, even through her most difficult times. She loved to share a laugh, especially at herself. Debbie loved spending her time in Cheticamp with Yvon and her two cherished dogs, Zoey and Wookie.
In honouring Debbie's wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Following the mass, all are welcome to join the family at a reception in the parish hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Debbie, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
