MADDEN, Pearl Madelaine – 86, Belleville, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born October 6, 1925 in Pinkney’s Point, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Melanson) Surette. She was orphaned at an early age and was subsequently raised in Eel Brook by the late Elise and Edmund d’Entremont. Pearl was a retired school teacher, and she and her husband founded Pearl and Dave Madden Insurance, which later became Vaughne Assurance. She also owned and operated the family service station/store in Eel Brook. Music played a big part in Pearl’s life, and she enjoyed singing with La Chorale Acadienne du Sud-Ouest. She was also a member of St. Anne’s parish, as well as the Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau New Horizons. Pearl is survived by her children, Eddie (Cheryl), Malcolm (Margaret), Eunice (Matthew), Sally (Chris) and Vaughne, as well as by four grandchildren, Rose, Devin, Everett and René, and a great granddaughter, Crystal Rose, as well as a brother, Vince (Frances) Surette. Aside from her birth parents and her adoptive parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dave, as well as by brothers Eugene, Benjamin and Gerald, as well as by sisters, Irene and Gertrude. Visitation took place from 2 to 4 and again from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, with prayers at 8 p.m., both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Maurice LeBlanc, c.j.m., officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Anne’s Church or to the Knights of Columbus, Council 8988 Tusket.
