Lawson States passed away on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his newly found family after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Windsor, N.S. on Feb. 2, 1941, he was the son of the late Viola States. He has resided in Sydney Mines for the past 11 years.
Lawson will be sadly missed by his angel on earth, Linelle Steele (Janelle as Lawson liked to say), Greg Greene and Gabrielle Steele. Also surviving are his sister, Lillian States, Halifax; his brother, Victor, Dwight, Phillip & Elroy (Edith), Windsor and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Viola States; his wife, Sue; his sisters, Joan and Margaret; his brothers, Hilton and Marvin and his special friends, Monica and Greg Greene Sr.
Special thanks to Lawson’s other family, the nurses on the 5th floor, Northside General Hospital (for all the cups of tea he enjoyed), Dr. Bernie MacIntosh and palliative care. You all went above and beyond for the kindness and special things that you did for Lawson. Also to a special friend, Donnie Campbell, Lawson looked forward to you visits every day. Thank you to Jill (palliative care music therapy). He was so proud that everybody who wanted could enjoy your beautiful music instead of just him.
Visitation Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A service will take place at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
