Mary Isabel MacNeil, 78, passed away November 9, 2009 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Isabel was born in Sydney, NS on June 13, 1931, daughter of the late Joseph T. and Margaret MacMillan, New Waterford, NS.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Russell, Dartmouth, their loving children, Bruce (Chrissie), Gordon (Sheila), Pamela Howell (David) and Daryl (Tracy), all of Dartmouth and Sackville, Nova Scotia. Isabel and Russell were also blessed by their grandchildren, Marly, Dominic, Brett, Jenna, Kurt, Evan and Aidan. She is also survived by her brothers, Michael MacMillan (Cindy), Grand Desert, NS, Joseph MacMillan (Irma), Chilliwack, BC, Raymond MacMillan (Beverly), Trenton, ON and her sister, Teresa Jobe (Robert), Salmon Arm, BC and many nieces and nephews. Isabel graduated from Nova Scotia Teacher’s College, Truro, and taught elementary school in New Waterford, NS, for several years where Russell and Isabel raised their family. She later managed the Cape Breton University bookstore where she expanded her passion for learning and literature.
She was a long standing member of the Cape Breton Chorale for 18 years. She loved music, reading, entertaining and duplicate bridge where she was a formidable opponent.
However, her greatest passion was cooking to which many friends and family could truly attest. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her loving husband, family and many friends. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, wit and the sound of her voice filling the family home.

Visitation will take place at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, NS (862-7500) on November 12, 2009 between 7-9 p.m. and a funeral mass celebrating Isabel’s life will take place at the Parish Church of Saint Leonard’s, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford on November 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford and all are welcomed to attend.
