Martin MacKay

PICTOU – Martin Angus MacKay, 85, Pictou, passed away peacefully December 6, 2011 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island on August 4, 1926, he was a son of the late William and Florence (MacLean) MacKay.
Martin was a Chief Engineer with Northumberland Ferries Ltd. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a 42 year member of the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and was a member of Eastern Star I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 1, Pictou. Martin was a quiet man who loved his family and will be sadly missed by his wife, Audrey (MacLeod); children, Janet (Don) Boyd, Truro; Verna Bulley (Peter Mackenzie), Halifax; grandchildren: Mary Beth and Ian Boyd, Myke Bulley; sisters-in-law, Joyce Johnston, Sturgeon, P.E.I. and Anne Soper, Stanhope, P.E.I. and four nieces.
Besides his parents Martin was predeceased by his brother, Jack MacKay and sister-in-law, Emily MacKay.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Friday, from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Steve Webb officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Martin’s memory may be made to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou.
