It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Allan Clarke at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on December 6, 2011 at the age of 100. Gerry grew up in Hastings, Nova Scotia, the son of the late Charles and Edna (Long) Clarke. He enjoyed a lengthy career at Dunlaps Hardware Store and retired at the age of 64. After retirement he moved to St. Stephen, New Brunswick until his return to Amherst in 2004. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a skilled woodworker. Gerry is predeceased by his siblings Chester, Garnet, William, Kenneth, Peter and Grace and is survived by his wife of 72 years Mildred (Langille) of Amherst, NS; brother Russell (Barbara) of Amherst, NS; son Donald (Nancy) of Dartmouth, NS and grandchildren Peter and Paul; daughter Marilyn (Louis Bernardini) of Calais, ME and grandchildren Chris, Meredith and Tony; daughter Elaine Holland of Calais, ME and grandchildren Jennifer and Michael; son Grant (Brenda) of Amherst, NS and grandchildren Emilee, Lisa and Matthew; and 10 great-grandchildren. Gerry was a kind and gentle man who saw the good in everyone he met. He had a deep love for his family, and his love was unconditional. We his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren thank him for the example he set for us. He was at all times a gentleman and he will be sadly missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Centennial Villa and the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their kindness and care. Gerry has been cremated under the care and direction of the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). A memorial service will be held at a later date.
