CHURCHVILLE – Velma Stewart, age 91, of Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Churchville, Pictou County, passed away December 8, 2011 in Valley View Villa.
Born in Plymouth Park, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Robert and Mary Jane (Murray) Dunbar.
Velma was a resident of Churchville all of her married life. She had been a guest at the Valley View Villa in Riverton for the past two years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton and a former member of the Churchville Women’s Institute, Churchville Community Centre and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Plymouth Fire Department.
Velma is survived by a daughter, Betty Hughes (Derek Mitchell), Trenton; grandson, Kevin Hughes (Terry MacGregor), New Glasgow; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Carver; sister, Aleen Kellock, Plymouth Park; sisters-in-law, Violet Dunbar, Brockville, Ontario and Anne Wylie, Churchville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; son, Bobby; brothers, Lloyd and John.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
