We, the family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of Janet Walker at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011.
Born in Gabarus, she was the youngest daughter of the late Capt. John C. and Edwina (Himmelman) MacDonald.
After graduating from normal college (1934), she taught in Gabarus preceding her marriage. She later moved to Sydney with her family before spending a long and wonderful retirement with her husband in Marion Bridge, overlooking the Mira on Trout Brook Road. She enjoyed the outdoors, either spending time tending her garden, picnics with the family or discovering new places around the island.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of over 50 years, Johnny Walker ‘Pops’ and her one and only son, Gordon.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, Janet was predeceased by four sisters, Ethel, Melinda, Mary, Ella and five brothers, Daniel, Charles, Bill, Sidney, Edwin.
Janet is survived by her four grandchildren, Stephen (Martha) Walker, California, Brian (Eleanor) Walker, Ontario, Terri Lynn Walker and Janet Dufour, both of Sydney and four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Nathan, James, Kyle, for whom she has been affectionately known as Bammy.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and followed by a funeral service at the chapel, with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
