It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Josephine Barbara Nicholson, age 72, beloved wife, mother, sister and aunt on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, Barb was the daughter of the late John Augustus and Mary (Robertson) Yorke. She was a faithful and active member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney, a former Sunday school teacher and president of the ladies auxiliary. Barb was a founding member of the Cape Breastoners Dragon Boat Team, and also Past Worthy Matron Munroe Chapter #26 of the Order of Eastern Star. A great organizer, Barb was always willing to lend a hand in her community and church, but her greatest concern and love was for her family.
She is survived by her loving husband Alexander ‘Nick’ Nicholson and her son Scott ‘Sandy’ Nicholson, a sister Betty (Howard ‘Nip’) Hillier, North Sydney and a brother, Roddie (Wanda) Yorke, Bras d’Or; two sisters-in-law, Lennie Pardy, Florence and Sally Popovich, Sydney Mines, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her four sisters, Jean LaSalle MacGilicuddy, Rhoda Donovan, Edna Voutier, Gerry Yorke .
Visitation for Barb will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Giles Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church.
