WHITE, Elmer Allison – of Richfield, Digby Co., left this earth on December 3, 2011, as a result of a farming accident which occurred on October 29, 2011. Born February 27, 1936 in Kemptville, Yarmouth Co., he was the second son of the late Kenneth P. And Evelyn F. (Carty) White. Elmer worked in Ontario in his younger years, but worked as a farmer and a woodsman in and around Carleton and Richfield areas the majority of his life. He liked to have an early garden in the spring, and apples and potatoes in the basement in the fall. Elmer liked his oxen and often put his spring garden in with them. He taught John the art of “breaking in a pair of steers”. He was a collector of many things, but more avidly oxen and cowbells. Elmer married Mary Chandler in 1978 and they raised their family in Richfield. Elmer was a great supporter of Mary with her scouting. He cut many poles, carted kids, camping equipment and whatever was needed over the years. Elmer leaves to mourn his wife, Mary Chandler; sons, Thomas C. White, Toronto, Ont.; John J. White, Richfield; stepdaughter, Andrea J.O. MacIvor, Crosslake, Man.; brother, Eldon C. (Lucille) White, Richfield; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by older brother, Stuart P. White. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. A celebration of Elmer’s life took place on Wednesday, December 7 at 3 p.m. from the Forest Glen Community Centre. Interment took place at Forest Glen Cemetery. Donations made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Tri-County Branch, in Elmer’s memory will be appreciated.
