Dorothy Robinson
ROBINSON, Dorothy "Jean", age 93, of Swift Current passed away Dec. 5, 2011 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Dec. 10 from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home in Swift Current with Barbara Wiebe officiating. Jean is survived by two sons Carson (Beryl) and Dennis (Donna) of Swift Current; by her eldest sister Ann Robins and younger brothers Jack (Lois) Davidson and Angus (Marlene) Davidson; by her sister-in-law Ethel Calnek; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her parents John and Agnes Davidson, sisters Janet Lamb and Myrtle Baragar, seven brothers-in-law (Jim Dinsmore, Irvin Lamb, Vic Robins, Wes Baragar, Edgar Robinson, Garland Robinson, Gerry Calnek) and two sisters-in-law (Billie Robinson, Eunice Robinson). Jean was born Sept. 23, 1918 on the family farm south of Ponteix and attended Pinto Head School. While working at Bradley's Nursing Home in Cadillac, she met Raymond Robinson and married him at her childhood home on Nov. 22, 1939. The couple rented a farm near his parents. After nine years in the Cadillac area, Jean and Raymond decided to try the greener pastures of Manitoba. Six years later when the opportunity came to take over his father's farm, Raymond, Jean and the boys returned to Cadillac where they farmed until 1976. At that time they moved into Swift Current. Like the women of her era, Jean managed a home, assisted with the farm operations and raised her sons without modern amenities. Her life centered around family and church. Within the community she enjoyed curling, square dancing and visiting with friends and neighbours. Retirement did offer some truly golden years for Jean as she tended her city home and yard, travelled across the country and to her parents' home in Scotland, wintered in Arizona, tried her hand at new crafts, and kept in touch with family. Jean and Raymond had 62 years together. A year after being widowed, Jean moved to the Bentley Retirement Community and resided there until shortly before her death. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliser Regional Care Centre Auxiliary, 440 Central Ave S, Swift Current S9H 3G6. Warren's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
