MITCHELL: Emily Mary (Faulkner) Mitchell of Swift Current, formerly of Tompkins, SK passed away December 6, 2011 at the Swift Current Care Center, at the age of 91 years. Emily was born April 13, 1920 in Gull Lake, SK and attended the Gull Lake School. On June 17, 1940 she married John Mitchell from Tompkins, SK where they spent many years on the Mitchell farm as well as the Winter ranch. While raising her three children she kept busy with farm work but really enjoyed family gatherings filled with fun, food, card playing, music and dancing. In 1969 she and John moved to Tompkins where she became the first librarian for the Chinook Regional Library, Tompkins Branch. She spent 23 happy years working with library patrons and loved theschool children's visits. She was very involved in St. Andrew's Anglican church as Sunday School teacher for 30 years, church bookkeeper, ladies' meetings, Bible studies, and meeting church members within the whole church. She volunteered in groups such as Tompkins Community Supports, Donor's Choice, and especially the Homecoming Committee where she a group of others spent endless hours seeing that Tompkins Homecoming was always the best. She loved decorating cakes especially wedding cakes. Emily carried a camera with her wherever she went and so she preserved much of the past. She liked reading, jigsaw puzzles, collecting spoons and postcards from all the places she visited. Christmas was her favourite time of year. She loved sending cards and letters to friends and family and many people were on her endless Christmas list. Due to mobility problemsshe moved to the Swift Current Care Center where she looked forward to visits from friends and family also making new friends with many of the staff at the home. Emily is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Brian) Parker, son Ken (Carol) Mitchell along with grandchildren and their families which include Keith and Christopher Parker, Sherry, Jeff and Owen Wall, Carrie Mitchell, Alex, Gregory and Nathallie, Robert, Alex, Nikki, Raya and Reilly, Mike, Michael and Theresa Mitchell, Mary Ellen (Dale ), Kelsey and Shalyn Krempasky, Bill'Mitchell, Selena, Jeremy,Brittany, Brandon and Tyler, Ian, Amy and Sam Parker.She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Elsie Faulkner, her husband John Mitchell and her daughter Kay. Emily's funeral was held at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 10,2011 in the Tompkins Community Hall with Eleanor Rockabar officiating. Clara Butler was the organist, Fred Reinhart the guitarist and the Community Choir led the singing. Her grandson, Keith Parker gave the eulogy. Bill Mitchell, Wayne Carlson, Ray Wiens and Terry Winter were the ushers. Internment was in the Tompkins Community Cemetery. Honorary pall bearers were all who shared in Emily's life. Donations in memory of Emily may be made to St. Andrew's Anglican church, Tompkins or the Chinook Regional Library, Tompkins Branch. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
