Aged 94, Calgary, Alta., and formerly of Collingwood and Springhill , passed away peacefully in Foothills Hospital, Calgary on Saturday, October 24, 2009, with many family members by her side. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late David and Hannah (Munro) Austin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Marguerite was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Calgary, a lifetime member of the Cedar Temple No. 21 Pythian Sisters, and a former long-time member of the Collingwood United Church Women. Spending time with her family was a highlight for Marguerite. She was an avid card player (SKIPBO) and an armchair coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. She loved music, particularly the old hymns. Her budgies, Sweetie and Darlin, provided her with many hours of entertainment. Prior to being diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in 2007, Marguerite enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by son, Allan (Rouie), Oxford; daughters, Rev. Carolyn Rushton, Wawanesa, Man.; Hannah Boss, Springhill; Mary Lou (Pat) Phalen, Calgary; Marie (Jerry) Chapman, Oxford; daughter-in-law, Vicky Rushton, Springhill. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, Robert "Bobby"; son-in-law, Ace Boss; brothers Charles, Lewis and Howard; sisters, Tina Howard and Barbara Capstick. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, Oxford, (447-2930). A memorial service will take place at a later date.
