Violet Olive (Williams) Boschman passed away at Pineview Terrace Lodge in Prince Albert on November 9, 2009 at the age of 92. Vi was born in Saskatoon, Sask. She attended schools there and in other parts of the province and graduated from Scott Business College. She was employed by the Manager's Office of the Hudson's Bay Company in Saskatoon; by medical clinics at Manitou Beach, Ile a la Crosse, and Prince Albert, Sask; by the Records Office of the Kaingaroa Logging Company and the law firm of Osborne, Handley and Gray in New Zealand. Following her marriage to William (Bill) Boschman in 1939, she, together with Bill, operated "Bill's Store" at Battle Heights, east of Carrot River, from 1939-42 and 1946-51, then moving to Hudson Bay, Sask., New Zealand, Ile a la Crosse, Prince Albert, New Zealand again and back to Prince Albert in 1974. Vi's interests were mainly in the fields of politics, library work, horticulture and world law. She did volunteer work for the CCF during the 1943-44 campaign for Saskatoon and Hanley constituencies; was sec-treas. of the Kelsey Constituency CCF in the 1950's; campaign volunteer in the 1971 Provincial election in Prince Albert; constituency secretary for the Prince Albert-Duck Lake NDP Assoc.; Provincial Councilor for five years, and delegate to some provincial and Federal Conventions. She was a founding member and secretary of Library Boards in Hudson Bay, Sask. and Murupara, New Zealand. Her interest in organic gardening, human nutrition, and the environment led to doing volunteer work for the Galatea Horticultural Society in New Zealand. As a member of the World Association for World Federalism since 1961, she traveled and reported several meetings in and outside Canada, and was appointed to the Education Committee by the World Council in 1969. Other volunteer work included serving as vice-president of a Home and School Assoc., secretary of B.E.S.L. Auxiliary, convener of a branch of the Canadian Red Cross and as a volunteer and director for the Prince Albert Historical Society. Vi was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2005. She is survived by her son Roger (Eleanor) and her grandchildren, Billy, Rogelle, and Ranwill, all of Hong Kong. At Vi's request, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank Dr. Halyk and the kind and caring staff at Pineview Terrace Lodge for faithfully looking after Vi for the last five years. Also a special thanks to Carol Little and Pat Skauge for being such compassionate people. Donations in Vi's memory may be made to the PA Community Clinic or the Alzheimers Society. Arrangements are entrusted to MARTENS WARMAN FUNERAL HOME (934-4888).
