EVE SMART

EVE SMART

Born April 12, 1924. Eve passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2011, after a valiant struggle. Predeceased by her daughter, Linda Smart Dixon, and son, Edward Smart.
Eve is survived by her niece Frances Paskins, nephew Peter Paskins and many friends. Eve was born in Bruce Mines, Ontario, the youngest of a large family. She served in WWII (Air Force) and later married and raised a family. She moved to the West Coast, and this was where she wanted to stay. Eve later moved to the Sunshine Coast and became involved in many activities and organizations here, including playing violin in the Sunshine Coast Community Orchestra, joining the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre and the Gibsons Public Art Gallery; Eve was always creating art. Eve began writing stories, became a core member of the Writers’ Forge and helped found a writing group that continues today.
Eve will be remembered for her smile, her laughter and her great joy in conversation. She continued developing her talents right to the end, learning to play French horn and piano in her 80s. She was always working on new art projects and had a show of her work at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery in 2010. Eve had an incredibly strong and positive outlook on life. She never gave up. Eve will be sorely missed.
Special thanks to Dr. Hughan, Dr. Lehman and Dr. Reznick, the nursing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and the caring hospice staff at Shorncliffe in Sechelt.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in January and some of Eve’s musical friends will be playing.
Donations in Eve Smart’s name can be made to the Gibsons Public Art Gallery.
