William Joseph Chiasson, 96, Cheticamp, died Nov. 10, 2009, at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Patrick Thomas and Louise (Deveau) Chiasson.
For 35 years Willie Joe worked as a coal miner in New Waterford. He then worked as a taxi driver for Briand’s Taxi in Sydney. He also had a service station in Big Pond.
He is survived by daughter, Ethel Louise Clark, Cheticamp; sister, Annie Mae Merriam, Long Beach, Calif.; grandson, John Patrick MacPherson, Louisville, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Knicole, Kristian, Katherine and Kaela MacPherson, all of New Hampshire; great great-granddaughter, Klara MacPherson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife, Marie Isabelle Chiasson (LeFort), son, John Patrick Chiasson, brothers, Tim, Alphonse (Swish), Joseph, Louie, Stanley, Leo, Dave and Johnny, sisters, Bernadette Breslin, Flavie Chiasson, Elizabeth Haydu, Marie Cecile LeBlanc, Beatrice Lever, Marie-Louise Predergast.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Community Health Centre.
