Antoon ‘Tony’ Bernard Willems

Tony Willems, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, with his family by his side.
Born in Siebengewald, Netherlands, he was the son of the late Leonardus and Petronella (Graat) Willems.
Tony was employed with the Cape Breton Hospital as an attendant for many years until his retirement. Tony devoted his life to God through his constant caring for his wife, children and then his grandchildren. He enjoyed the simple things in life especially gardening.
Tony was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his children, daughters, Bertha (Greg) Ryan, Corry (Francis) O’Brien; son, Leo Willems; and sister-in-law, Helen Willems. Papa will be missed by his eight wonderful grandchildren, Adele, Keith, Crystal, Shaina, Amanda, Theresa, Kirk and James.
Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his brothers, Martin, Sydney, Gerrad, Johannus, Hendrikus, Hermanus, Josef, Pete, Nul, Wim and Leo, sisters, Tilt, Meen and Graat, all of the Netherlands, as well as his wife, Petronella (Kamp) Willems, and daughter, Geraldine Woodill.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. followed by a service at 2:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
