Norma Lillian (Trenholm) Ferguson, age 93, of Cape Tormentine, wife of the late Robert Elliot Ferguson, passed away peacefully at the Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin on Thursday, December 15, 2011.
Born in Cape Spear, she was the only daughter of the late Thomas and Eliza (Priest) Trenholm.
Norma was a member of the Cape Tormentine United Church, UCW, a member of East Westmorland Senior Citizen’s Club and a life member of the Cape Tormentine Branch # 81 Royal Canadian Legion.
Norma loved music and loved to dance and was very talented musically although she had no formal training. Her ambition, which was never realized, was to be a nurse. After finishing school, she worked with her father for a time, taking care of the farm while her older brothers were working away from home. She also worked as a housekeeper and nanny to families in Moncton and Cape Tormentine area until her marriage.
Norma was a wonderful cook and there was always room at the table for family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed telling her 'stories'. She called her house “The Do Drop Inn” because she never knew who would arrive for a meal or overnight.
Norma will be lovingly and sadly missed by her daughter Florence (Wayne) Burns, Wasaga Beach, ON; grandchildren, Susan Burns and Kent (Satoko) Burns; three great grandchildren, Haileigh Pye, Alexandra Pye and Emily Burns who called her Great Normie. Norma also has many nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1980, and brothers Courtney, Lionel, Jesse, Burnett and Gordon.
Arrangements are in care of the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin, NB (506-538-2241), where visiting hours will took place on Monday, Dec. 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #81 of Cape Tormentine provided a memorial service at 7 p.m. during visiting hours in honour of their fallen member. The funeral service for Norma was held at the Cape Tormentine Trinity United Church on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at 2 p.m., William Drysdale DLM officiating. Burial followed in the Fernwood Cemetery Port Elgin.
Following the funeral service, a time of tea and fellowship and celebration of Norma's life will be held in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #81, Cape Tormentine. All are invited to attend.
