MERCER, MADELINE CLARA - Madeline Mercer of Hampton, loving wife of Gordon Mercer, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2011 at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John. She was born in Bloomfield, NB, daughter of the late Francis and Agnes (Adair) Hodgin. Besides being a caring mom and grandmother, Madeline was very involved with St. Alphonsus Church and Hampton Community Library. Surviving besides her husband Gordon are children, Nancy Murphy, Calgary, AB, Catherine White (Keith), Conception Bay South, NL, Joseph Mercer (Regina), North Vancouver, BC, Susan Mercer-Thornhill (Randy), Calgary, AB and Ronald Mercer (Caroline Mills), Guelph, ON; four sisters, Genevieve Anglin, Saint John, Muriel Richard (Alair), Saint John, Barbara Sands (Edwin), Hampton, Carolyn Gilchrist (Robert), Norton; two brothers, Harold Hodgin (Emily), Moncton, Kenneth Hodgin, Bloomfield, NB; nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, David Mercer, brothers, Murray and Bernard Hodgin and sisters, Marion Donnelly, Pauline Mercer and Mildred Cormier.
Resting at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, at St. Alphonsus Church, Hampton. Interment in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Hampton.
