It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Bertha Young on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the Miners Memorial Manor in Sydney Mines.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Annie (O’Handley) Farrell.
Bertha is survived by her daughter, Joan (Gordon McLean) Young, Sydney; sons, Allan (Beverley) Young, Sydney, and Richard (Janet) Young, Ontario. She is also survived by grandchildren, Miranda, Andrew and Heather.
Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Vince, brothers, A.B., Tom, Joe, John, brother, Richard in infancy, and sister, Margaret ‘Maggie.’
Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Holy Redeemer Church, with Fr. Gillis officiating. There will be a reception following the mass. Interment to take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
