On Sunday evening, December 18th, 2011 Michael Murphy passed away peacefully at Ridgeview Lodge in Kamloops on his 89th birthday.

Born in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland on December 18, 1922, Mike, as he was affectionately known was the oldest child of Matthew Murphy and Mary Anne Plunkett. In 1952, he moved to Northwich, England where he met Catherine "Kitty" France. They married on August 23, 1952 and in November of the same year immigrated to Canada. Mike and Kitty lived in Vancouver before settling in Burnaby to raise their three children. In January 1982, Kitty his wife of 30 years passed away with cancer. Mike continued working for BC Hydro until retiring in February 1985 after 32 years of employment.

Mike is survived by his son, Michael Murphy, daughters Monica Murphy and Maureen (Murphy) Gibson and her husband Rick as well as three loving grandchildren Kyle and Shannon Murphy and Michaela Gibson.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Ponderosa and Ridgeview for the compassionate care given to their father over the past two years.

No formal service by request.

Interment to follow at Forest Lawn in Burnaby.
