Upham: Hazel Pearl, 86, of Townsview Estates Truro, formerly of Masstown, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Townsview residence. Born in Wentworth, Hazel was the daughter of the late Leonard and Ada (Totten) McGill. Hazel moved to Truro at 16 and worked in the mills until meeting her husband a few years later. Hazel was a loving housewife involved in her husband’s dairy farm and a foster care Mom to more than 85 children throughout her lifetime. Hazel loved cooking, bowling, travel, music and dancing and also enjoyed entertaining friends with her harmonica. Three years ago Hazel relocated to Townsview Estates where she continued to make people smile and until just two months ago took part in the shopping trips, picnics and music events, sharing her winning personality as she warmed the hearts of the Townsview residents. Hazel is survived by daughter, Gerri Otterson, Truro; son, Richard (Jane) Upham, Truro; foster son, Stephen Clarke, Masstown; sisters, Florence Harnish, Wentworth; Daisy Taggart, Onslow; brother, Lloyd (Roxie) McGill, Alberta; grandchildren, Kari (Louie) Velocci, Halifax, Alicia MacMillan, Truro, George (Fauna) Osborne, Texas, Amanda Upham, Marty (Jen) Upham, Nicholas Upham, Truro, Tyler and Chantel Clarke, Fredericton, Amy Curry, Truro; great-grandsons, Matthew and Daniel Velocci, Connor Whooten; great-granddaughters, Britany Martin and Jacqueline Upham; Hazel also leaves her faithful companion, Harold Glawson; several nieces and nephews. Hazel was predeceased by her husband, Basil; sister, Thelma; brothers, Layton, Earl, Percy, Maynard, Stanley; grandson, Troy Galloway; daughter-in-law, Susan Upham. Visitation will be held 12pm to 2pm followed by funeral service at 2pm, Saturday, November 21, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, Rev. Don MacQueen officiating with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will then be held in the Belmont Cemetery.
