Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, L.A. Miller Centre, on Wednesday, December 21st, 2011, Gerald Lewis of St. John’s, age 83 years. Inducted into the Royal St. John’s Regatta Hall of Fame in 1993, member of the W.M. Summer Jr. Championship Crew 1959 – 1964. Predeceased by his wife Eileen, parents Mike and Bridget Lewis, his brothers Mike, Jack, Herb, Jim, Clarence and Garret, his sister-in-law Gladys Lewis. He leaves his brother Aiden, St. John’s, sisters-in-law Hannah Lewis, whom he resided with in St. John’s, also Eileen Lewis, Newbridge and Rita Lewis, Newbridge, special nephew John Lewis and wife Maureen, as well as many nieces and nephews, his longtime friend Les Field and his Cards buddy at Peter Easons — Harold Mason, Gary O’Keefe, Con Cottes and Eric Lawlor. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Tuesday, December 27th, from 11 am. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 28th, at 11:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Interment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Basilica Green Heat Fund.
