With saddened hearts, we announce the death of Theodore Milton 'Ted' Shea, Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Agnes (Barron) Shea. Dad was employed as a welder in the Electrical department of Sydney Steel Corporation for over 43 years. He was a long time member of St. Theresa's parish.
Dad served his country proudly as a volunteer in the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment, 7th Brigade, Third Canadian Infantry Division, and saw extensive action in the front lines during battles in Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a lifetime member of Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion. Dad was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hours fishing and hunting; inspiring a love of nature in his family. In recent years, he particularly enjoyed the love and company of family at numerous family events.
He is survived by daughters, Sharon (Greg) MacDonald, Jacqueline (Dave) MacKinnon and Ann Marie (Darrell) Wall; sons, Shaun (Bev), Dennis (Ruth), Joe (Karen) and Tommy (Mary Ellen); 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two special companions, (Ceilidh and Duffy), all whom he dearly adored. Also surviving are sisters, Jackie, Lorraine, Bev, Sheila and Eileen, brothers, Desi, Reid, Kenny, Clifford and Michael.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 2005, grandson, Joseph, sisters, Catherine, Joan and Cora Lee, brothers, Austin and Francis.
Visitation for Mr. Shea will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Transition House; Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit or a charity of one's choice.
