Doris Marie (Couture) MacQuinn passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Energetic and hard-working, she was a great mother, grandmother, friend and neighbour.
Doris worked ‘downtown’ for many years at Fred’s Creamery and later at Alteen’s Jewellers.
She loved shopping, gardening, reading and visits from her grandchildren and ‘little’ neighbours and was devoted to her family. For the last 20 years of her life, she was a caregiver to various family members, even when her own health was waning.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Deborah MacDonald-Couture (Ronald), with whom she resided; and grandchildren, Jennifer Hullet (Nate), Justine Couture-MacDonald and Joseph Couture-MacDonald. She is also survived by her sister, Anne Guillena; special nephews, Barry and Jamie Couture, as well as other numerous nephews and niece, Linda Couture.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Margaret (Morley) Couture, husbands, William MacKinley and Joseph MacQuinn, brothers, John, James and William Couture.
Cremation has taken place at her request. Visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 19 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 6-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20 in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Cape Breton Regional Hospital cancer unit or palliative care or charity of choice.
