HALIFAX – Mary Margaret (nee Grant) Smith, 1917 - 2009.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Margaret Smith (nee Grant) on November 14th, 2009 in the Halifax Infirmary of the QEII.
Mary was born in James River, Antigonish County, and was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Helen (McKay) Grant of James River; her brother, Ellsworth; and her sisters, Dorothy and Isabel.
She is survived by her daughters: H. Lorraine (Charles) McCabe, Ottawa, Ontario; W. Joyce (Lowell) MacDonald, Naples, Florida and Chapel Cove, Pictou County; and Susan (Ernest) MacWilliam, Lloydminster, Alberta and Kings Head, Pictou County; grandchildren: Cynthia, Tracey, Lowell, Lane, Leslee and Kaitlin; and great-grandchildren: Allyson, Erin, Madeline, Catherine, Simon, Emma, Bennett, Lauren and Madeline.
Mary founded Jet-Pro, a business school in Halifax, and was a member of the Province of Nova Scotia Retired Employees. She loved music, especially the violin, and played for many years with the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
