Robert Robertson ‘Bob’, 83, of Sydney Mines, passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Dec. 26, 2011.
Born in Sydney Mines, April 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Robert and Ann (Thomson) Robertson.
Bob was a highly-respected salesman for Kimberly-Clarke from 1952 until 1973 when he suffered a brain aneurysm. He enjoyed playing baseball and hockey is his youth and then followed these sports as an adult. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed entertaining others in conversation. Even while suffering the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, he would often visit shut-ins to cheer them. He was actively involved in the Sydney Mines Gospel Hall from his early adult years. Over the last 20 years his health declined and he was diligently cared for by his faithful wife. For the past three years he resided at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Monroe Place for their loving care and kindness, as well as Dr. Wawer and Beverley Muldoon, LPN.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Yvonne (Layton) Robertson; sons, Robert (Wanda), Sydney Mines, Kenneth (Sharon) Waverley; daughters, Dianne (Bob) Phillips, Whitby, Ont., Heather Toomey, Oshawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Josh) Reid, Jonas (Jin), Michael (Vanessa), Kyle (Sarah), Leah, Rebecca, Robert, Kelvin, Lee-Ann; great-grandchildren, Owen and Olivia; sister, Agnes (John) MacDonald, Sydney; extended family, Elizabeth and John Munn, Jean DeMont, Fred and Bernice Layton, Robert Layton, Carol and Dave Roberts; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jessie, nephew, Timothy Layton, brother-in-law, Allen DeMont.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at the Sydney Mines Gospel Hall, 125 Yorke St., Sydney Mines, with Mr. David Swan and Mr. Fred Bartlett officiating. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the same location. Interment at Brookside Cemetery, reception to follow at the gospel hall.
