Peter David Squires
Passed on: December 24th, 2011
Passed away peacefully at the S. A. Glenbrook Lodge on Saturday December 24th, 2011 following a lengthy illness as the result of a stroke. He was the son of the late David Squires and the late Olive (Snow) Squires. He was born in St. John’s, on March 22, 1940. Peter (Lefty) excelled in various sports and especially in baseball and was pitcher for St. Michael’s School, the Fieldians, the Guards and later on in the Commercial leagues. He worked with C.N.T. as a cable splicer and travelled over many areas in the province and later settled with Terra Nova Tel in Gander, from where he retired and returned to St. John’s. He loved fishing and hunting and would stop at any pond to “flick his line.” In recent years he walked many miles every day until his stroke 2 1/2 years ago. He was captivated by Winston Churchill and his writings. He is survived by his sister Olive Squires Klevorick (Jackie) of Riverview, N.B.; his nephews Marshall David Klevorick (Jackie) of Halifax, N.S., Philip Wayne Klevorick (Starr) of Las Vegas, Nevada; great niece Madison Klevorick of Revelstoke, B.C., special half sister Pearl Murphy (Jim) of Portugal Cove and several cousins. He was past member of the Anglican Cathedral, the CLB, CEI Club and the Monarchist League. At this time we would like to thank the staff of the Glenbrook Lodge, Dr. Vaughan Jackson, cousins Violet Squires Ruelokke, Bill Squires, Harold (Madge) Squires, Jeanette (Pat Cumby), Dorothy Spracklin (George) who went beyond the call of duty for Peter for the past 2 1/2 years. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will be held in the spring. No flowers by request, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road, the S.A. Glenbrook Lodge or a charity of one’s choice. To send a message of condolence or sign the memorial guest book, please visit www.carnells.com.
