STOLHANDSKE - Nellie May Stolhandske – Nee Slatcher
May 1, 1919 – December 11, 2011
“God’s Masterpiece is Mother”
After a life filled with love, laughter and a lot of excitement, Nellie May Stolhandske was reunited with the love of her life, Edwin on Sunday December 11th. Predeceased by her father, Charles Slatcher, her mother Emily Slatcher Finch, brothers Frank, Alf and Eric Slatcher, sister Mabel McPhedran, and beloved husband Edwin Stolhandske. Nellie is survived by her sisters Rose Oughton, and Earleen (Harvey) Woods. As a Mom and Grandma, she will be forever missed by her son Gordon Hockridge, daughter Beryl Lagasse (Guy), step-daughter Sheila Bolton (Gerald), and step-son Keith Stolhandske (Brenna), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mom graduated from nursing in 1943 and enjoyed her career for many years. In 1971 mom was reunited with her sweet 16 boyfriend Edwin, they married in 1972 and began her life on the farm, which she enjoyed and loved dearly. She took great pride in her yard and garden, there was not a weed to be found! Edwin and Mom enjoyed many years traveling to Mexico, Hawaii, Florida and several cruises. They finally settled in Queen Valley, Arizona where they took up and enjoyed golfing and happy hour with many of their friends and came true the saying “a bird can’t fly with one wing.” People were drawn to Mom wherever she went. She was a staunch supporter to all she loved and had a style that was her own…she never left the house without looking like a million dollars. Mom was known for her young at heart attitude, flair for fashion and wonderful sense of humour. People were always amazed when they found out her age…and she would just smile a little smile… and say “Bless you.” Mom was always so proud of her grandchildren and all of their accomplishments and adored her many nephews and nieces. In 2000 Mom moved back to Stonewall to be closer to family and enjoyed getting reacquainted with old friends. A memorial will be held at a later date in Swift Current. Mom – you have left a void that can never be filled. We will miss you dearly.
