GARVIE - Angus Washington Garvie was born on February 22, 1923, on the family homestead at Val Marie, SK, to Wilbur and Thelma (Orr) Garvie. Angus farmed the homestead, north of Val Marie, with his dad until 1956, when he headed south to Orkney, SK, to establish and tend to his own grain farm. In 1989, when he retired from the land to Swift Current, he changed his work boots for bowling shoes and dance shoes. His quiet, unassuming nature will be remembered and missed by family from Ontario and by friends in the southwest. Angus is survived by his sister-in-law, Maxine (Macdonald) Garvie; his nephew, Doug and Denyse (Buss) Garvie; his nephew, Ken Garvie and Molly Watson and their children, Drew, Kate and Craig; his niece, Lynne and Marilyn Lamson, all of Ontario, SK. He was predeceased by his brother, Lloyd Garvie. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 20, 2009, at 11:00 am from the Swift Current Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alex Allan officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson. The hymns sung by the congregation were “Amazing Grace” and “It is Well With My Soul”. The ushers were Richard and Donna Rees. The Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Swift Current. In memory of Angus Garvie donations to the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Care Foundation, the Red Cross, or to the Sask. Abilities Council would be appreciated by the family. Swift Current Funeral Home were in care of arrangements.
