
Beryl Alderson
Alderson, Beryl Irene, 86, of Amherst/ Springhill, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Nappan, NS.
Born August, 1925 in Collingwood, Cumberland County, NS, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Hazel (Taylor) Austin.
A teacher for 31 years, she taught in various schools including Blockhouse, Lunenburg Co., Laggin, Pictou County, Joggins, Cumberland Co.. In 1948 she married Harry Alderson and moved to Springhill where she resided until 2001. Most of her career was spent teaching grade two at Junction Road Elementary School, Springhill, NS. While at Junction Road Elementary, she worked diligently to establish it's first school library. She was active in the Home and School Association, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and of late a member of Crossroads Pentecostal Church, Amherst.
Beryl will be sadly missed by her children, Diane Alderson Shaw, Amherst, NS, John (Valarie) Alderson, Springhill, NS and Nancy (Michael) Wilson, Dartmouth, NS; brother, Emerson (Lavona) Austin, Collingwood, NS; grandchildren, Neal (Carla) Alderson, Brad and Ian Wilson all of Dartmouth, NS and Matthew Shaw, Riverview, NB; pride and joy, great-granddaughter Marrin Alderson, Dartmouth, NS and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She had many friends both young and old.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; sisters, Claudina Coates, Sara Fletcher and Juanita Bickle.
Beryl's remains have been cremated under the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777) from where a memorial service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 2 pm, Pastor Jonathan Cole officiating. Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation Monday from 1 pm until the time of the service, reception immediately following. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice. www.furlongjones.ca
