Bernard, Roderick Francis ‘Roddie’ Bernard, 78, Beach Road, Eskasoni, died November 18, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Malagawatch on August 4, 1931, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Paul) Joe.
He was a retired carpenter and worked for the Eskasoni Band Council and was a member of Holy Family Church, Eskasoni.
He is survived by two daughters, Martha (Shawn), Millbrook; Nancy, Eskasoni; stepdaughters, Rosie, Betty (Mike); stepsons, Ben (Bridget), Walter (Madeline), Levi, David (Mildred), Maynard (Gina) and Howard (Elizabeth), Eskasoni; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Madeline Bernard; brothers John, Millbrook and James, Eskasoni; stepbrother, James Joe, Eskasoni; stepsister, Louise Sylliboy, Eskasoni; stepsons, Francis and Charles, Eskasoni; granddaughter, Valon and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be at his daughter Martha’s residence, 30 Martin Crescent, Millbrook on Saturday November 21, 2009 from 10 a.m. – 9 a.m. Sunday morning. His Remains will be transported to Eskasoni for visitation on Sunday November 22, 2009 after 2 p.m. at 5293 Mountain Rd. Funeral will be held, Tuesday November 24, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Burial will be in Parish Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Colchester Funeral Home, Truro & TW Curry Funeral Home, Sydney.
