Florence Mae Johnston of Sydney, Nova Scotia passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 at Hospice Simcoe in Barrie ON., following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Tarbotvale, Victoria County, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Margaret (MacPhee) Carmichael of Ben Eoin.
Flo was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother. She was retired from MacGillivray Guest Home after 25 years of service.
She and is survived by her children Stephen (Sharon) Listowel, ON, Laura Leigh (Jim) Flear, Barrie, ON, and William ‘Woody’ (Sheri) Sydney; also her nine grandsons, Anthonie, Kenneth, Gerrit, Shaun, Connor, Logan, Tyler, Mitchell and Bryden. They will greatly miss her kind, gentle and loving ways.
She is also survived by her brothers Bernie (Louise), Jack (Margie) and Archie all of Sydney; Rod, Florida and by her sisters Dena (Donald) Johnston, Phyllis (Ron) Youden of Sydney and Carol (Danny) of East Bay; sisters-in-law Charlene, Windsor, ON., and Charmaine, Sydney, ON. Also left to mourn are her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She always had a warm welcome for those coming home from away.
Flo was predeceased by her loving husband William; by her brothers Elmer and Roy; sister Marie and sister-in-law Connie.
Visitation for Florence Johnston will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, from 2 -4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Daniel Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice Simcoe or to a charity of choice.
