Warren Albert Lewis, 77, of Lingan Road, Sydney passed away peacefully early Nov. 22, 2009, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Bertha (Fougere) Lewis.
He worked for many years in construction with Chappels and Island Construction until his retirement.
Warren will be remembered for his music. He could be found most early evenings on the Sydney Boardwalk playing his keyboard and singing, he was often referred to as ‘The Music Man’ and received the honor of Maritimer of the Week for playing his music at The Cove Guest Home for the residents.
He is survived by his three sons, Ralph (Debbie), Joseph (Carol), both in Sydney, and Edward (Shelly), Musquodoboit Harbour; five daughters, Ann (Leslie), Mary (Stephen), Grace (Dave), Warna (David), Margaret (Daniel), all of Sydney. Warren is also survived by his wife, Rose Gillis-Lewis; and her children, Rosemarie (Robert), Steve (Tanya) and Tom (Nicole) along with 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years and mother of his children, Theresa Lewis (Power), his second, wife Rose Chipman-Lewis, along with siblings, Rita, George, Nick, Merle, Pearl, Eddie, Dolly, Betty and Ralph in infancy. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation will be held Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will take place Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Following the mass a reception will be held in the parish hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Warren, donations in his memory may be made to The Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
