CENTRAL WEST RIVER – Mary “Isabel†Jackson, 79, of Central West River, passed away Thursday, November 19th, 2009, at home.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Catherine (Park) Beaton. Isabel was a nurse by profession.
She was a resident of Central West River since 1984, prior to which she lived in Saudi Arabia for 11 years, Texas for three years and Rhode Island for 30 years.
While in Saudi Arabia she volunteered to remain during the first Gulf War so allied casualties would have the comfort of a voice from home.
She enjoyed bowling for the woman’s and senior’s league. She was a member of the Heritage Club in Westville and volunteered at Tearman House. Isabel spent time hooking mats, reading, playing crib and solving crossword puzzles.
She is survived by sons; Chester (Marion), Florida; John (Michelle), Florida; Robert (Carline), California; David, Jacksonville, Florida; daughters; Mary Catherine, Riverside, Rhode Island; Elizabeth (John) Pavao, Portland, Maine; Christine (Paul) Murphy, Portsmouth, Rhode Island; sister; Christine (Siegfried ) Ehrenfeld of Central West River; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late David S. Jackson of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; son; Carl; brother; Malcolm “Buddyâ€.
Cremation has taken place.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday in the H. W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. There will be no memorial service by request.
Private burial will take place in the Thorburn Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Isabel may be made to Tearman House.
